PARA SWIMMING OFFICIALS CLINIC
Swim Saskatchewan and Swimming Canada will be hosting a Domestic Para Swimming Clinic in Saskatoon on Saturday, November 23. This course is free of charge and officials can sign up at edu.swimming.ca. Registration is open!
To take the clinic, officials must complete the Intro to Swimming Officiating (Timekeeper) and be fully certified in Judge of Stroke or Inspector of Turns. To be certified, you must have taken the clinic and had 2 deck evaluations in the position. Being certified in both positions is preferred, but not mandatory. Additionally officials are highly encouraged to also complete the Para Swimming e-module. Officials must also be committed to working the Saskatoon Lasers Invitational Swim Meet the following day (Sunday, November 24) to apply what they learned during the course.

CANADIAN OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC TRIALS
2024 Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials were held at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre from May 13-19. There were 857 athletes from 151 clubs from across Canada competing in this competition.
There were 14 swimmers who represented Saskatchewan:
Regina Optimist Dolphins Swim Club - Ava Harlos and Ovesh Purahoo
Saskatoon Laser Swim Club - Hannah Ouellette, Nikita Ens, and Shelby Newkirk
Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club - Abigail Gebhardt, Blake Tierney, Brayden Hemeon, Bryce Tierney, Ella Howe, Ethan Hemeon, Holden Lees, Isabel Magus, and Keiran Dyck
These swimmers obtained many personal best times – way to go!!!
Competition Highlights:
Hannah Ouellette won Bronze in 50m Fly S5. She also set a new Canadian Para Record for 200m IM SM5 in prelims and then broke her record again in the final!!
Nikita Ens won Gold in 50m Backstroke S3.
Shelby Newkirk won Bronze in 50m Free S6, Silver in 100m Back S6, and Silver in 100m Free S6 (and set a new Canadian Para Swimming Record in the event).
Nikita Ens and Shelby Newkirk were nominated to represent Canada in Para Swimming at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, along with Coach Ryan Jones!
Blake Tierney was selected for Team Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games! He won 1st place in 100m and 200m backstroke. He also set new Saskatchewan Provincial Records for both events and set a new Canadian Record for the 200m event.
You’ll be able to cheer on Blake at the Olympic Games starting on July 27 and Shelby and Niki at the Paralympics beginning on August 28!
Congratulations to all the swimmers on your outstanding performance and successes at the competition. Your dedication and hard work will inspire young swimmers throughout our province. We are so proud!
